Why your ideas sound like everyone elseβs
Escape the echo chamber
Yesterday, we talked about doing the opposite of the crowd. Today, Iβll show you one way to actually do it.
Itβs easy to fall into the trap of creating content from other peopleβs content. You watch a few YouTube videos, read some newsletters, and suddenly youβre talking about the same things as everyone else. Youβre in the echo chamber.
So, how do you differentiate yourself?
Itβs simple, but not easy. You have to drink from a different fountain. We all have to consume information every day, but the source of that information is what makes all the difference. Do you want to drink from the same downstream tap as everyone else, or do you want to go straight to the source?
What I mean is this: stop getting your primary ideas from other modern creators.
Instead, go directly to the origin. Read the foundational books. Find the original scientific studies. Discover the authors who have dedicated their entire lives to a single topic. Go back to the thinkers who created the mental models we all use today.
When you get your information from the source, you gain a perspective that is impossible to get from social media. While everyone else is debating a copy of a copy, you are seeing the full picture.
This is how you develop a truly original voice. Itβs how you lead, instead of follow.
My goal with this newsletter is to explore those deeper, foundational ideas. If that sounds like a journey you want to be on, you can subscribe right here.
