Who’s Via Libera for?
The community for people who wants to control their location, time and work.
The day I realized I had no control over my own life.
March 2020. COVID-19 shut down the world.
I was working IT support for a big consulting firm. Everyone else got sent home but me. Together with other services roles we had to come to the office every single day.
Not because there was work to do. The office was empty. But we had to be there “just in case someone needed support.”
So I sat there. Alone. In an empty building. Watching everyone else work safely from home while I commuted an hour each way to... wait.
That experience opened my eyes to the things that were truly important.
I realized I had zero control over:
Where I worked (someone else decided I needed to be in a cold german office)
What I worked on (I always had to do what other people told me to, never working towards anything of my own)
When I worked (I was working 8-hour shifts designed for factory workers, not knowledge professionals)
From that moment, I did everything possible to escape that support role.
Inside my company I moved into software engineering. More autonomy. More interesting problems. More control over my location and schedule.
But it still wasn’t enough.
I was still trading time for money. Still working on projects I didn’t choose. Still asking permission to work from a different city, or to take 5-days off.
That’s when I made the decision.
I sold everything I owned and moved to Southeast Asia. Started my own consulting firm and this newsletter.
Now I work from Bangkok. Or Chiang Mai. Or wherever I want to be that week.
I don’t have 8-hour shifts. I work when I’m sharp, rest when I need to, and build things that are actually mine.
I control:
My work → I choose what I build and who I help
My location → No one tells me where I need to be
My schedule → I work like an athlete, not a factory worker
This is what Via Libera is about.
Not escaping work.
But building work that’s actually yours. Where you control your location, your time, and what you create.
If you’re sitting in an empty office right now—literal or metaphorical—wondering why you have no control over your own life, I wrote this newsletter for you.
Because I know exactly what that feels like.
And I know the way out.
Who Gets the Most Value from Via Libera
The people who benefit most from this community share specific frustrations that traditional career advice can’t solve. They’re knowledge professionals with real expertise, but they’re stuck trading time for money with no control over their location, schedule, or the work itself.
Creative Professionals who are tired of their best ideas being diluted by committee decisions and corporate politics. You know your ideas work, but you feel invisible in your own meetings. You want to build authority around your expertise instead of being just another voice in the corporate machine.
Technical Experts who are brilliant at what they do but struggle to turn that expertise into scalable income. You have deep knowledge that others desperately need, but you’re exhausted by hourly billing and can’t figure out how to package it into products.
Consultants and Freelancers who feel trapped by client demands and the constant hunt for new projects. You have valuable frameworks and insights, but you’re tired of trading every hour for dollars with no leverage.
Project and Operations Managers who see inefficiencies everywhere but have no platform to share their solutions. You’ve solved complex problems dozens of times, but that knowledge stays locked in your company instead of building income for you.
Finance and Strategy Professionals who understand complex business dynamics but struggle with self-doubt about building something independently. You keep postponing your own business because you don’t believe people will pay for what feels “obvious” to you.
HR and People Leaders who are frustrated by workplace dysfunction but feel powerless to create real change within corporate structures. You have insights about what actually makes teams work, but you’re constrained by policies you don’t control.
The Common Pattern
They all struggle with the same fundamental challenges:
Control over their work → Doing valuable work but having no say in how, when, or where they do it.
Trading time for money → Earning well but realizing there’s a ceiling because they only have so many hours.
Building authority online → Knowing they need to establish credibility but not knowing how to position themselves or write consistently.
Creating products that scale → Understanding their expertise has value but not knowing how to package and sell it beyond hourly services.
Transitioning safely → Wanting to build independent income streams without making reckless financial moves.
Impostor syndrome → Feeling uncomfortable putting themselves out there, despite having genuine expertise to offer.
The Via Libera Approach
Every day, you’ll get practical strategies that address these exact challenges:
Turn your expertise into scalable info-products that generate income beyond your hours. No more ceiling on what you can earn.
Build systematic online writing habits that establish your authority without requiring you to become a social media personality.
Create consistent content using frameworks that work even when you don’t feel motivated or inspired.
Develop authentic personal positioning that attracts the right audience and opportunities to you. Establishing yourself as the expert you already are.
Plan your transition strategically from employee to entrepreneur with step-by-step guidance that minimizes risk.
This isn’t about overnight success or escaping work entirely. It’s about building work you actually control. Your location, your time, and what you create.
Who I Am
I’m David, a former engineer in management consulting who left at 32 to build my own business.
I run a digital consulting firm, but I’m tired of helping businesses make more revenue for their executives. My goal over the next few years is to transition fully to writing and helping real people build independent lives through online writing and info-products.
I learned that many talented knowledge professionals stay stuck not because they lack skills, but because they don’t have a clear system for turning their expertise into scalable products and building authority online.
Via Libera is how I’m sharing everything I learn on this path: the systems, frameworks, and strategies that work for building something that’s yours.
Ready to Start Building Your Ideal Life?
If you recognize yourself in any of these stories. If you have valuable expertise but struggle with positioning, consistency, or creating products that scale. Then you’re exactly who this newsletter is designed to help.
You don’t need to quit your job tomorrow. You don’t need a massive following. You just need a systematic approach to build independent income through online writing and info-products, so you can control your location, your time, and your work.
Once you’ve truly controlled your own fate, you’ll never let anyone else dictate your schedule, your worth, or your future again.
P.S. The people getting the best results are those who don’t rush the process and implement one small system each week rather than trying to change everything at once.
P.P.S. If you’ve read this far, something tells me you’re ready for a different approach. The question isn’t whether you have valuable expertise—it’s whether you’re ready to do something with it.
