The first big mistake I made with my Newsletter (Youβll want to avoid it)
Read this before you choose a name
Hereβs a word of advice if youβre starting a newsletter: Donβt name it.
Look, this is coming from someone who loves to create brands. Out of all the things I do, crafting a strong message and a visual identity is one of my favorite parts of the process. I wish I had discovered this passion decades ago instead of wasting time in the wrong career.
But this isnβt just about me; itβs about you.
When I started my own newsletter, I called it βEarly Retirement Plan.β I had this clever idea that instead of dollar-cost-averaging money into an index fund, you could dollar-cost-average your knowledge into an email list, creating a retirement account of opportunities.
I still believe in that concept. Itβs a core part of what I teach.
But the name was a mistake. My advice to you is to not give your publication a special name at the beginning. Just use your own name. A fancy title isnβt necessary, and it can box you in.
You can always rename it later in your journey when your mission becomes crystal clear. This will give you the flexibility to evolve.
Take it from meβI think Iβve changed the name 3 or 4 times, and Iβve only been doing this for three months. It creates confusion and wastes energy.
I share these hard-won lessons so you can avoid making the same mistakes. If you want more practical, no-fluff advice on building your own thing, subscribe to my daily newsletter.
